BUSINESS INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
AUDITS, REVIEWS AND COMPILATION
Our firm provides three types of engagements. Assurance refers to the reliability of a client's assertion in the financial statements. The types of engagements and levels of assurance are explained below:
Audit - an intensive examination with the highest level of assurance. This means the financial statements are free of material misstatement and prepared according to Canadian generally accepted accounting principles. The audit procedures used comply with generally accepted auditing standards. The nature of the auditors' report expresses a positive assurance opinion.
Review - some analytical procedures conducted with limited assurance. This means the financial statements are plausible and prepared according to Canadian generally accepted accounting principles. The review procedures consist of enquiry, discussion, and analytical. The nature of the accountants' report expresses a negative assurance opinion which means nothing has come to the attention of the accountant to suggest otherwise.
Compilation - (also known as Notice to Reader) is based upon client information provided and used primarily for internal use. This means the financial statements are simply arranged from client information and there is no level of assurance expressed. The nature of the accountants' report expresses no opinion which means there is a caution on their use by external users.
Training - You or your staff may simply need some training to reconcile certain accounts.
Development - Or you may need to develop a new or better accounting system.
Advice - You may have some questions about whether you are doing the accounting right.
We can help with all of the above.
Bookkeeping is simply the day-to-day record keeping of your business. We can provide monthly or yearly bookkeeping services for your business or show you how to do it yourself.
If you have unreported income or tax returns not filed, voluntary disclosure may be a way for you to be compliant with Canada Revenue Agency and possibly avoid penalties and interest. Please contact us for further information.
TAX RETURN PREPARATION
The type of tax return you need depends upon how your business is legally formed.
Corporation - this type of return is required when your company is incorporated with authorised and issued share capital.
Individuals - if you are operating a sole proprietorship your business income or loss is reported on your personal tax return.
- if you are an individual, all income and losses are reported on your personal tax return.
- a final return is required up to the date of death.
Estates and trusts - many times a testamentary trust is created upon death. We can help you determine if this is the case.
Non-Profit Organisations - most non-profits must file a corporate income tax return now and some may also need to file a federal Non-Profit Organisation Information Return.
HST - if your sales are over $30,000 per year, then you should be registered for HST. The filing frequency depends on your gross sales.
